“Gays for Trump” and LGBTQ Trump Supporters…
--
Something that I’ve always had a hard time wrapping my head around is why any rational and educated member of the LGBT community would vote for or support Donald Trump or this current administration.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve tried my best to be open and listen to the viewpoints of the predominantly white gay men who voted Trump within our community, but when they say little more than regurgitated Trump quotes I’ve come to the conclusion that if you are a member of the LGBT community and you voted Trump you are one of two of the following: ignorant or idiotic.
Why? Well to start let me ask you what positive things has Trump done for the LGBT community? Didn’t he claim he was the most “Pro LGBT President Ever!”?
Now how has his administration hurt the LGBT community? Reversing protections for LGBT federal employees. Moving to allow employers to discriminate against LGBT employees. Working to allow adoption agencies receiving federal funds to be able to discriminate against same-sex couples. Working to remove the very notion of gender identity from the public by forcing people to adhere to either one of two sexes which, in essence erases transgender people. Cutting funding to HIV and AIDS research. Working to ban transgender men and women from serving in the military. And the list goes on and on. Voting for and supporting Donald Trump and this administration are supporting those who seek, in a very real way to oppress and even erase you and I, and those like us.
You’ve got to be a special brand of stupid to throw your own community under the bus like this and you weren’t worth a brick at Stonewall because I’ve got news for you, it wasn’t the white cis gays, it wasn’t the politicians, and it wasn’t the president or military who fought for your rights, it was black trans women. You had access to all of the same information as the rest of us but you still chose to ignore the warnings. This administration has made it perfectly clear that the LGBT community does not matter and they are systematically taking steps to reverse the progress that we have made over the past several decades, and you as an LGBT Trump supporter are complicit in all of this. My opinion on this topic is non-negotiable and should he win re-election, with a newly conservative Supreme Court, our rights are on the table. We could very well once again become second-class citizens, for the second time in my lifetime.
